Jessica Becking Writer In Residence Conducts 2Day Young Adult Writing Work Shop

Since December, the City of Kawartha Lakes Libraries have been offering the service of creative writing support through their Writer-in Residence Jessica Becking.
Jessica now plans to offer a creative writing workshop during the March Break to students age 12 – 16 years of age.  "Stories & Snacks" will be held on Tuesday and Thursday, March 12 and 14 from 2 – 4 pm in the Meeting Room of the Lindsay Library.
The first day of the workshop will focus on the short story, preparing to write and building writing skills through a variety of interactive writing games and discussions. Students will then use the skills they gleaned to write a short story.  On the second day the students will present their story and discuss editing skills. Both days will include a short break for snacks.
A writer of literary fiction herself, Jessica has studied under many published authors including Kevin Barry and James Miller and has worked with major publishing houses in a variety of capacities.  Her short stories and essays can be found both online and in print.
Jessica is a recent graduate of Kingston University's Creative Writing and Publishing M.A. program and alumna of I.E. Weldon Secondary School.
Jessica is looking forward to working with young people in a workshop setting. For more information and to register for the workshop please contact Diane Lansdell at (705) 324-9411 ext. 1265 or at dlansdell@city.kawarthalakes.on.ca.
