Hunger Awareness VS McHappy Day! 

May 8 2013 McHappy Day, is also Give It Up for Hunger Day, two very opposite ways of observing the  day - fasting, and buying McDonald's food.
What do you do when this situation faces you? 

Give It Up For Hunger Day

Wednesday May 8, people across Canada are asked to fast and share their hunger contemplations with others. For 900,000 Canadians - many of which are children not to taking part in McHappy Day is simply a reality, not having food at all is a reality or many!  

Why Are Canadians Hungry?

The main hunger cause in Canada is thought to be low minimum wages.  Income from minimum wage positions is barely enough to cover rent in most areas.

Kawartha Lakes Hungry? Yes!

In Kawartha Lakes, Kawartha Lakes Food Source and its members provide emergency food to an average of 2,000 individuals per month, 40% of whom are children. In addition, fresh fruit is purchased for 15 school breakfast programs. However for many  the 'emergency' occurrs monthly.



The health unit points out the cost of healthy food for a family of four costs over $179 for one week, and encourages people to rethink poverty.Did you know poverty costs each Household almost $3 000 per year? To improve our economy, we must end poverty.Here is a video from the rethink poverty campaign.

McHappy Day May 8

Feeling hungry? McDonalds welcomes you to make your meal count today. Boys and Girls Clubs of Kawartha Lakes will receive  $1 from every Big Mac, Happy Meal and Hot McCafe beverage (Brewed Coffee, Tea, Hot Chocolate, Cappuccino, Latte, Mocha, Americano and Espresso) sold at McDonald's in Lindsay today.  A very good cause, so if you are breaking your fast tonight,head over to McDonalds.
