Kawartha Conservation holds Water Conservation Open Houses
Kawartha Conservation invites you to join in Open Houses in Kawartha Lakes examining local water issues and how you can take an active part in ensuring our lakes and watershed will be protected. Thre Open Houses are being held:
1. Sunday, August 10, 2014 Kawartha Conservation held their first of three Open Houses at Coboconk Lions Hall, 9 Grandy Road, Coboconk Presentations at this Open House included:
  • Managing Northern Pike Populations in the Kawartha Lakes, by Paul Gasbarino, Muskies Canada, Kawartha Lakes Chapter 
  • Balsam & Cameron Lake Management Plan, by Dave Pridham, Manager, Technical and Stewardship Services, Kawartha Conservation
2. Tuesday, August 19, 2014, Kawartha Conservation will host an Open House in partnership with Cameron Lake Moorings Association from 7 pm to 9 pm at Fenelon Falls Community Centre 27 Veterans Way, Fenelon Falls.  Presentations will include:

  • The Ribbon of Life: The Importance of Shoreline Naturalization and its Contribution to Water Quality, by Barb Elliot, Professor, Fleming College 
  • Balsam & Cameron Lake Management Plan, by Dave Pridham, Manager, Technical and Stewardship Services, Kawartha Conservation 
3. Wednesday, August 20 2014 Kawartha Conservation will host a third Open House, this one in partnership with Trent Matters. This third Open House will take place from 7 pm to 9 pm at Kirkfield District Lions Club 973 Portage Rd, Kirkfield. Presentations at this Open House will include:

  • Native Turtle Habitat and Conservation, by Jeff Hathaway, Scales Nature Park 
  • Introduction of the Milfoil Weevil in the Trent Severn as a Long Term Management Tool, by Ashley Chlebak, Lab Manager, Enviroscience 
  • Canal & Mitchell Lake Management Plan, plus the Talbot Arm, by Dave Pridham, Manager, Technical and Stewardship Services, Kawartha Conservation and Brian Ginn, Limnologist, Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority

  1. What are your concerns about Kawartha Lakes Water shed?
    For me I think they should be looking at what is causing the beach closures.
