KAWARTHA LAKES HEALTH CARE INITIATIVE ANNOUNCES FOURTH NEW FAMILY DOCTOR FOR THE CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES IN 2015

The Kawartha Lakes Health Care Initiative (KLHCI) and City of Kawartha Lakes Family Health Team are pleased to announce the recruitment of Dr. Laura Millson. Dr. Millson will replace Dr. Sheila Mae Young on her retirement, effective January 1, 2016, by accepting care for all the patients in the practice.

About Dr. Laura Millson

Dr. Millson completed a Bachelor of Medical Sciences, Honours Specialization in Physiology, Minor in Psychology at the University of Western Ontario. She received her Doctor of Medicine from the University of Toronto and completed her Family Medicine Residency at Queen’s University; Peterborough-Kawartha site. Dr. Millson’s family resides in a nearby community which makes the City of Kawartha Lakes (CKL) a perfect match for her.
Dr. Millson has purchased her first home in CKL and comments, “Thank you for welcoming me into your community. I’m looking forward to living and working in the City of Kawartha Lakes for many years to come”.
Cindy Snider, Recruitment and Retention Coordinator for KLHCI noted how working with the doctors to facillitate a smooth transition has been a pleasure.
“It has been a pleasure to work with Dr. Millson and Dr. Young to facilitate this recruitment. It is very rewarding to know that Dr. Young’s patients will continue to receive their family medicine care in the City of Kawartha Lakes at the location, and with the staff, that they are familiar. I am very proud to represent KLHCI and CKL when attending recruitment events throughout the province, particularly when they are the doorway to a successful recruitment.”
Dr. Young, also appreciates how well this recruitment process has worked for her patients.
Dr. Young states, “I am very pleased that Dr. Millson has agreed to care for all patients in my practice. Dr. Millson has been granted Active Privileges with the Ross Memorial Hospital allowing patients to be cared for in the community and hospital. I will be able to begin my retirement with the knowledge that my patients will have no gaps in their ongoing care needs. I would like to commend KLHCI for all their excellent work to recruit family doctors to our area and am proud to have recently become a member of their Board of Directors. It has been a pleasure to work together to facilitate Dr. Millson’s arrival.
Robyn McNabb, President of KLHCI, states that, “KLHCI would like to welcome Dr. Millson to the City of Kawartha Lakes and wishes her many years of satisfaction, both personally and professionally, within the community.”
"We are very pleased Dr. Millson has agreed to join our team and commend KLHCI for their work recruiting family doctors to our area,” agreed Dr. Stephen Oldridge, President of the City of Kawartha Lakes Family Health Team and the team’s Executive Director, Mike Perry.

When Will Doctor Millson Begin Her Kawartha Lakes Practice?

As of January 1, 2016, Dr. Millson will join the doctors of the City of Kawartha Lakes Family Health Team. Local doctors work with the team’s nurse practitioners, family health nurses, dietician, pharmacists, psychologist, clinical social workers, occupational therapist and respiratory therapist to provide patients with complete health care. The family health team also partners with local health organizations and offers a variety of health programs designed to help keep residents healthy.
