Doctor Recruitment Funding Received!

Kawartha Lakes Mums- Great News -Especially If You are Doctor Hunting!

Several successful doctor recruitment programs in City of Kawartha Lakes will be expanded, thanks to funding received from the Government of Canada’s Eastern Ontario Development Program. This is great news not only for those people seeking a local doctor, but also for our local economy,as explained in the press release issued by Kawartha Lakes Health Care Initiative.

FUNDING RECEIVED FOR RECRUITMENT OF FAMILY DOCTORS
The Kawartha Lakes Health Care Initiative is pleased to announce that it has received funding to support the expansion of three programs to recruit family doctors to the City of Kawartha Lakes. These programs are extremely important in assisting with efforts to recruit family doctors to the CKL.
The funding is through the Government of Canada’s Eastern Ontario Development Program, which is administered by the Kawartha Lakes Community Futures Development Corporation aka KLCFDC with the support of the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario, FedDev Ontario.
'The KLHCI Board of Directors is very pleased to again receive funding through this program. We are grateful to the KLCFDC Board of Directors and look forward to the positive outcomes expected,'says Andrew Veale, President.

Programs that will see expansion are, the Family Medicine Residents Weekends, an additional Rural Medicine Week, and a further opportunity to present at a medical university regarding medical training in CKL. Each of these programs is essential to the recruitment of family doctors to CKL by showcasing the practice opportunities available and the benefits of enjoying life in CKL.
KLHCI appreciates the support of the Victoria County Medical Society and BMO Harris Private Banking. “The expansion of these programs would not be possible without the support of the medical community acting as hosts and preceptors”, says Cindy Snider, KLHCI Recruitment and Retention Coordinator.
“The additional support being received from BMO Harris Private Banking is also greatly appreciated and the information they are able to provide to medical students and family medicine residents is found to be very beneficial.'

Ian Crockford, Board Chair of the KLCFDC, sees great benefits to the local economy when family doctors choose to practice in the CKL.
'The local economy is known to grow as every doctor who comes into a community provides a spin-off economic benefit of between $500,000 and $1,000,000 per year. Additional family doctors will positively impact the service capacity of the Ross Memorial Hospital. As more family doctors establish their practice in CKL, fewer citizens will need to travel outside CKL to receive primary health care,'stated Crockford.
