City of Kawartha Lakes Public Library Celebrates Ontario Public Library Week!

What is Ontario Public Library Week?
Ontario Public Library Week, first introduced in 1985, has become the annual focus for promoting and recognizing public library service in the province. It provides a focus to reflect upon the important contribution that public libraries make to the quality of life and economic health of their communities through their role in providing access to all types of information in every kind of format.
The City of Kawartha Lakes Public Library invites everyone to join us for a week filled with interesting events and special programs that will spur the imagination of children and adults alike. A special Activities Brochure is available at every branch and on the library website. Special Library book bags will be available free at all Library branches during Ontario Public Library Week while supplies last.
Beginning October 14 the Lindsay Branch (705 324-5632) will be open Sundays from 1-4 pm. We are pleased to offer this popular service from the week after Thanksgiving until the week before Victoria Day.
Special events for children featuring local entertainers include:
- Mrs. Twist, Balloonologist will be at the Bobcaygeon Library (705 738-2088) on Sat. Oct. 13 at 11 am and the Lindsay Library (705 324-5632) on Sat. Oct. 20 at 10:30 am.
- The Great Bobolini will make magic at the Lindsay Library (705 324-5632) on Tues. Oct. 16 at 6:30 pm and the Fenelon Falls Library (705 887-6300) on Sat. Oct. 20 at 11 am.
- Local storyteller, Liz Gilmour will present "A Pocketful of Tales" at the Omemee Library (705 799-5711) on Mon. Oct. 15 at 10:30 am, the Coboconk Library (705 454-3322) on Thurs. Oct. 18 at 6 pm.
The Read to the Dogs program featuring St. John's Ambulance therapy dogs will take place at the Cambray Library on Sat. Oct. 13 from 10:30 am – 12 noon and at the Lindsay Library on Wed. Oct. 17 from 6:30-7:30 pm. Advance registration is required for this program. "Meet the Therapy Dog" at the Fenelon Falls Library (705 887-6300) and learn more about the program on Sat. Oct. 13 anytime between 11 am and 1:30 pm.
The popular presentation by Scales Nature Park, featuring Canadian amphibians and reptiles will take place at the Carden Library (705 833-2845) on Mon. Oct. 15 at 6 pm, at the Bethany Library (704 277-2321) on Tues. Oct. 16 at 6 pmand at the Norland Library (705 454-8552) on Thurs. Oct. 18 at 6 pm.
The Library is pleased to offer a variety of programs for adults including an evening of storytelling with the Lakeland Storytellers at their "Coffee House" on Wed. Oct. 17 at 7 pmat the Lindsay Library (705 324-5632), "Meet the Burnt River Book Club" on Sat. Oct. 20 at 10:30 am at the Burnt River Library (705 454-9646) and local author Jim Anstess will make a presentation at the Fenelon Falls Library (705 887-6300) as part of the Local Author Series on Thurs. Oct. 18 at 7 pm. Learn how to access e-books and audiobooks through the library's service "Overdrive" - all your local library for details.
The Friends of the Lindsay Library will hold their monthly Book Sales on Tuesday, October 16 from 10 am to 6 pm andSaturday, October 20 from 10:30 am to 2:30 pm in the Carnegie Room, Lindsay Library. On Thursday, October 18 the Friends will present "An Evening with Terrance Randle West" author of "Not in My Father's Footsteps" in the Meeting Room, Lindsay Library at 7 pm. Light refreshments will be served and everyone is welcome. For more information call705 324-9411 ext. 1265.
Once again, in partnership with Kawartha Lakes Food Source, the Library will feature "Food for Fines". Patrons may pay their library overdue fines with donations of non-perishable food items during Ontario Public Library Week at any Library branch.
