Across Kawartha Lakes flooding is the main buzz  How is flooding affecting your family?
Some areas remain on alert, and are still sadbagging, while others are toiling with devastating flood damage What's happening in your Kawartha Lakes corner? 

Pigeon Lake Shoreline Residents Make Evacuation Plans!

A state of emergency remains in effect for Kawartha Lakes due to flooding. Kawartha Conservation has a Flood Warning in effect for the shoreline areas of Balsam, Cameron, Sturgeon and Pigeon Lakes. Shoreline residents are advised to take precautions to protect themselves and their property, to monitor water levels closely, and contact municipality should any threat of flooding develop. Sandbags remain available at the Bobcaygeon, Emily and Coboconk depots.

Those requiring assistance outside of those hours are asked to call our after-hours municipal emergency service provider at 1-877-885-7337. If you feel in immediate danger at any time please call 911.

Kawartha Lakes Flooding - Gull River Warning Remains

An MNR Flood Warning remains in effect for the Gull River system. The Trent-Severn Waterway officials are estimating it will take at least two weeks to see considerable improvement in water levels on this system. No flow adjustments are planned for the downstream portion of the Gull River today. Watershed flow will be reduced at some dams upstream in order to provide some relief to flooded areas. The Trent-Severn Waterway adjusts their water control structures in the best way to mitigate flooding within the entire Trent River system.

Kawartha Lakes Flooding - Health Information 

Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit is reminding residents to wear proper protective clothing when cleaning any properties impacted by flooding. As people may encounter flood waters contaminated with sewage or chemicals, they should wear long sleeve shirts, coveralls or long pants, boots, and gloves. Any clothing used should be laundered separately. If cleaning or removing mould, residents should wear personal protective equipment such as gloves and respiratory protection (e.g. minimum N-95 disposable respirator). For more information on cleaning after a flood, visit the Health Unit's website at www.hkpr.on.ca or call the Health Unit toll-free at 1-866-888-4577 and speak with a Public Health Inspector.

Kawartha Lakes Flooding - Ontario Disaster Relief Assistance Program (ODRAP) 

The application to the Ontario Disaster Relief Assistance Program is being prepared. Homeowners in flood affected areas are encouraged to take photographs of all flood damaged items before discarding them, and to fill out the private property damage assessment form available at www.city.kawarthalakes.on.ca. Please return the forms by Friday, May 3 at noon.

Kawartha Lakes Flooding - Community Donations 

City of Kawartha Lakes has set up a trust fund to help facilitate private donations for disaster relief. Donations will be accepted at all Municipal Service Centres or can be made at the Lindsay Royal Bank, to the Disaster Relief Trust Account. Charitable Donation receipts will be issued for all donations over $10.

An up-to-date list of road closures is available on the city’s website at www.city.kawarthalakes.on.ca.    What’s next? The Emergency Control Group will be reconvening on Wednesday, May 1 at 10:00am.
