Kawartha Lakes like many rural communities  in Canada needs more family doctors. Ten years ago the Kawartha Lakes Health Initiative was formed to recruit doctors to our area. Kawartha Lakes Health initiative is pleased to announce another family doctor has chosen to practice in City of Kawartha Lakes! Dr. Mastouris brings highly desirable knowledge to her Family Practice with Kawartha North Family Health Team. Who is this new doctor? How can you sign up as a new patient?

 City of Kawartha Lakes, September 25, 2014: Kawartha Lakes Health Care Initiative (KLHCI) is very pleased to announce Dr. Negin Mastouri will begin practicing with the Kawartha North Family Health Team (KNFHT) in Fenelon Falls in November 2014.

KLHCI is celebrating 10 years of successfully recruiting family doctors to the City of Kawartha Lakes (CKL). Since 2004, KLHCI has recruited 24 family doctors to CKL. Anyone wishing to register as a patient with Dr. Mastouri should contact the KNFHT at 705-887-3531, registration@kawarthanorthfht.ca, or visit the office at 50 Colborne Street, Fenelon Falls. The Kawartha North Family Health Team’s service area includes Fenelon Falls, Argyle, Bobcaygeon, Burnt River, Coboconk, Glenarm, Rosedale, Kirkfield, Norland, Uphill and surrounding areas.
Robyn McNabb, President of KLHCI notes that, “Dr. Mastouri spent two months this year training in the City of Kawartha Lakes (CKL) as part of KLHCI’s Family Medicine Residency program. KLHCI is very pleased that she has chosen to return to CKL to practice family medicine with the Kawartha North Family Health Team.”

Dr. Mastouri completed medical school at the Iran University of Medical Sciences & Health Services in 2001. She then completed a specialty in internal medicine and infectious diseases in 2005 from Tehran University of Medical Sciences. She won the gold medal and ranked second in outstanding academic performance in the National Board Exam for Infectious Disease specialist graduates, recognized by the Minister of Health and Medical Education in Iran. After immigrating to Canada in 2009, she completed a clinical fellowship in hospitalist medicine at University Health Network (Toronto Western Hospital and Toronto General Hospital) through the University of Toronto. She has just completed a family medicine residency with the University of Toronto at Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre in Barrie this month. Dr. Mastouri is excitedly looking forward to joining the KNFHT as a full-time physician and getting to know her patients. In addition to practicing family medicine, she has skills and a great deal of interest in diagnosis and treatment of common skin lesions, various skin lesions removal and diagnostic biopsy procedures

Gary Horner, Chair of KNFHT also expressed his pleasure in welcoming Dr. Mastouri. The KNFHT is looking forward to assisting her in settling into her new practice at their The Kawartha North Family Health is a community-led team including family doctors, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, mental health workers, a diabetes consultant, phlebotomists and administrative staff providing primary health care to its patients. The health team provides care for patients of all ages, working collaboratively to keep patients healthy through prevention, maintenance and health promotion.
