Kawartha Lakes Prepares for Spring Flooding!

Some areas in the City of Kawartha Lakes are prone to flooding - with so many lakes ad rivers, some residents ad visitors need to keep a close watch on rainfall and melt off in the spring.

Flood Watch Issued for Black and Burnt River Watersheds

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is advising residents that a Flood Watch is in effect for the Black River watershed and the Burnt River watershed, which includes the Drag and Irondale Rivers.
Residents in the Black River and Burnt River watersheds should take necessary action to protect property and monitor developing conditions closely. People are asked to stay away from fast-moving rivers and streams.
MNRF is closely monitoring the weather and developing watershed conditions.
A weather system is forecast to move into parts of southern Ontario on Thursday, April 9, bringing 30-45mm of rain, with a risk of thunderstorms that could result in an additional 10-15mm localized rainfall. Five day precipitation totals are in the 50+mm range.
On Friday, April 10, the system is forecast to exit the province dropping residual (up to 10 mm) rain across southern Ontario. Temperatures on Friday are forecast in the 10 to 15 C range. The long range forecast is calling for daytime highs in the 10 to 21 C range through to the end of next week.
The City of Kawartha Lakes continues to work with the Ministry of Natural Resources, Kawartha Conservation and Trent Severn Waterway to monitor water levels and provide updates.
