Durham Police Seek Public Assistance with Student Job Scam

Is this site scamming kids?
A Durham student applied for an Assistant Project Manager Job on the website Indeed.ca and was emailed a job acceptance letter from the National Student Exchange Program (nseprogram.com). The student completed paperwork and provided bank account information for direct payment. Duties included researching local attractions and off-campus residence options for international students hoping to study in Canada.
This work was completed for a probationary period and the employer then indicated an email money transfer would be sent to the students for one of the transactions was stopped and the students account was frozen. At this point, the incident was reported to police. This type of scam is often associated with organized crime.
Investigators would like to speak to anyone who may have had a similar experience.
Anyone with new information about this investigation is asked to contact Det. Galipeau of the Fraud Unit at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5321. Anonymous information can be sent to Durham Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or www.durhamregionalcrimestoppers.ca and tipsters may be eligible for a $2,000 cash reward.
