What will be happening at this event in Kinmount?

Here is some information you may find useful.

October 15 2016  Kinmount Candle Lighting

The Kinmount Lions Club, The Friends of Haliburton-Bancroft Midwives and The PAIL Network are pleased to announce they will be having a candle lighting ceremony on October 15th at 7pm at the Kinmount train station for Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awarness Day. We will be selling pinwheels, candles and purple glow stick bracelets. All funds raised will go to the PAIL Network in supporting bereaved families in Ontario.
We will start with the candle lighting at 7pm to participate in the international wave of light. We will then follow by calling the names of our angels. Families can then place their candle in the heart. We will then have speakers, music and some poems. If you would like to say a few words please contact Melissa Moody at 705-464-1114.

Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day Issues

Contrary to the popular belief that Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day is internationally legislated and observed as an international day of remembrance this is not the case.
Some provinces in Canada, like Manitoba, have already passed legislation declaring October 15th as Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day. In other provinces, October 15th can only be proclaimed – rather than declared – which means that an application has to be brought forward each and every year.
The Province of Ontario declared October 15th as Pregnancy and Infant Loss Day on December 8th, 2015 as one of the many elements of Bill 141: Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness, Research, and Care Act.
The official and legal declaration of October 15th as a day to acknowledge the unique grief of bereaved parents would demonstrate support to the many families across Canada who have suffered a loss through miscarriage, medical termination, stillbirth or the death of their infant during delivery or shortly after birth. Promoting awareness of pregnancy and infant loss will increase the likelihood that these families will receive understanding and support as they face the challenges of their distinctive bereavement.

International Pregnancy and Infant Loss Wave of Light

Pregnancy and Infant Loss Day is observed with remembrance ceremonies and candle-lighting vigils, concluding with the International Wave of Light.
The International Wave of Light invites participants from around the world to light a candle in honor starting at 1900 hours on October 15 in their respective time zones, and to leave the candle burning for at least an hour. The result is a continuous chain of light spanning the globe for a 24 hour period in honor and remembrance of the children who die during pregnancy or shortly after birth.
