The series of presentations will offer the opportunity to help people learn about and reflect upon mental health issues. All are welcome. What will these Mental Health presentations be about?
Glad you asked.
The first week in May is Mental Health Week, a time when we are all encouraged to learn, talk, reflect and engage with others on all issues relating to mental health.
The 3 Mental Health presentations will be held at  the Lindsay branch of the City of Kawartha Lakes Library in the Meeting Room  on the lower level beginning at 6:30 pm on each evening- May 12, 13 and 15.

3 Kawartha Lakes Mental Health Presentations

  • Understanding Mental Illness: Depression and Anxiety On Monday, May 12 the topic will be Understanding Mental Illness: Depression & Anxiety. Anxiety disorders are the number one mental health problem in Canada, affecting 1 in 10 adults, and major depression is the most common of all mood disorders. Jack Veitch, Health Promoter and Educator with the newly amalgamated Canadian Mental Health Association Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge Branch, will explain risk factors, symptoms and effects, and outline the range of treatment options.
  • Healthy Mind in a Healthy Body: Opportunities for Wellness The presentation on Tuesday, May 13 features 15 presenters with 15 activities as we look at the Healthy Mind in a Healthy Body: Opportunities for Wellness. Hear community members talk about their favourite activities—how and why they became involved, what they've gotten out of their involvement, and how you can join in yourself. You will hear from a cyclist, trail user, runner, yoga practitioner, bowler, racket sport fanatics, senior skater, tai chi devotee and others.
  • Understanding Mental Health Finally, on Thursday, May 15, Jack Veitch, CMHA Health Promoter will be joined by Ryan Alexander, Health Promoter for Community Care as they speak about Understanding Mental Health. Together they will explore the concept of "Mental Health" and outline strategies for maintaining your own mental health and building resilience.

The Library would like to express their thanks to Jack Veitch of the CMHA, Ryan Alexander of Community Care and to all of the community-members who have agreed to share their expertise and experiences.
