OPP Public Safety Balancing Act - High Speed Chase Halted!
Kawartha Lakes Mums- Do you sometimes wonder why police stop pursuing a vehicle? OPP recently needed to make a difficult choice again , to stop perusing a vehicle for public safety reasons. In some SciFi movies we sometimes see police having remote access to vehicle ignition. If such an innovation were to be mandatory in vehicles, do you think it would make a difference?
(CITY OF KAWARTHA LAKES, ON.) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is currently investigating a residential break in that led to a vehicle pursuit.
On May 24, 2012 officers from the OPP attempted to stop a vehicle that had been involved in a residential break in earlier in the day. The vehicle was west bound on Potts Shore Road, within the City of Kawartha Lakes, when the OPP attempted to stop it.
The officers activated the vehicles emergency lights but the suspect vehicle failed to stop for police. The suspect vehicle continued north bound on Highway 35 and a pursuit ensued.
The suspect vehicle continued to flee, evading the police. The pursuit was terminated for public safety reasons. The investigation is continuing.
