Houghton Creek Hosts LCVI Costa Rica Fund Raiser!

Kawartha Lakes Mums: Opportunity Knocks!

World Peace Costa Rica Tour Silent Auction Date Set!

December 8, 2012  Houghton Creek, Downtown Lindsay will host a  Silent Auction in support of  9  LCVI students who will  travel to Costa Rica to assist in volunteer projects benefitting the community and Rainforest. During the Silent Auction evening, from 6 to 9 pm,  refreshments will be served and an additional 10% off any purchase from Houghton Creek will be donated back to the group. This is also an opportunity for the public to learn more about the adventures the group has in store for them over  this coming March Break.

Courtney Sherk (16), one of the 9 young women attending this trip describes some of the activities that they will be taking part in.
'We will be working from a local school mostly, and then going on to work at a rainforest nursery, where we will learn and participate in rainforest revitalization and collect scientific data.'shated Courtney, adding 'We really hope that people will come out and support our trip. We really want to make the most of it, benefit the people of Costa Rica and the Rain forest.'
These young women from our community will have the unique insight and gain a new experiential cultural understanding, receive elevated academic development, establish a better understanding of environmental consciousness and, of course, promote and invest wholeheartedly into world peace.

This ambitious group of young women are working together to raise funds for their trip so they may further donate to their worthy causes in Costa Rica, and leave a small mark as their legacy for their hard work.

Planning for the trip is in full swing. These 9 young women, along with their teacher Ms. MacFarlane, are diligently researching and saving money so they may make the most of this trip. All of the teens have acquired part-time jobs outside of their school work and extra-curricular activities to make this dream a reality.

When asked if they will have time to savor some of the beaches and sunshine that Costa Rica boasts, Sherk said :
'Not on this trip. We have so much we need to do in a short time, but I wish we could, maybe next time.'
To donate an item to the LCVI Costa Rica Silent Auction , drop off the item at LCVI or Houghton Creek Want More details ? Visit the World Peace Costa Rica Tour Facebook Event.

How sun aware is your teen?
Sun Awareness Week is personally important to our family.Several years ago, my mother contracted Squamous cell skin cancer, which spread through her entire body.It was a slow, torturous death.

Are Digital Connections Harming Our Kawartha Millennial Teens? [ Infographic]

Do Digital Connections Harm Kawartha Lakes Millenial Teens?

Kawartha Mums do you think digital connections help or harm our Kawartha Lakes teens?
Kawartha Lakes teens are separated from their high school peers, often by long distances. Pre-computer era, it might cost a pretty penny to call your friends who were long distance,so we would have to wait to see them at school.
The following Infographic from online schools seems to suggest that online time may not be good for teens for several reasons. What is your opinion?
