Kawartha Lakes Mums - Need Assistance for Dementia-Specific Individuals?
Community Care City of Kawartha Lakes offers a new program Tuesdays and Wednesdays at Lindsay Christian Reformed Church for older individuals with dementia.Dementia rates are rising, this a new Adult Day Program launched by Community Care City of Kawartha Lakes is welcome news for local residents and their caregivers. These new services offered at 206 Angeline Street North, are an expansion of CCCKL Adult Day programming. The new programming is tailored to participants’ individual functional and cognitive levels.

“While clients with dementia can and will be welcome to continue to attend mixed Adult Day programs in the City of Kawartha Lakes, this programming will be specifically adapted for people with Alzheimer Disease or related dementia,” said Joan Skelton, Director of Community Support Services.In City of Kawartha Lakes, close to 1,600 people have been identified as having some form of dementia. That number is expected to more than double in the next 30 years. As well as support for dementia, there is a growing need for respite services for their primary caregivers. Attending a day program provides activation for individuals, and respite for caregivers.
CCCKL currently provides Adult Day programs several times a week in Bobcaygeon, Fenelon Falls, Little Britain and Omemee.
Potential clients for the Adult Day program receive a comprehensive health assessment from the local Community Care Access Centre, and annual reassessment by CCCKL. Following referral from the Access Centre, further consultation is undertaken with clients and caregivers to develop individualized service plans.
