St James Anglican Church Kawartha Lakes Launching Community Kitchen

Kawartha Lakes Mums- cooking can be a real chore if you live alone, are on a shoestring budget, or have special dietary concerns. We were very pleased to see St. James Anglican Church, Fenelon Falls is launching a Community Kitchen. Do you know someone who would enjoy a morning out ?
Please share this article with them.
Cooking doesn't  doesn't have to be onerous, says Diane Engelstad, coordinator of St. James Anglican Church Community Kitchen, a new initiative in Fenelon Falls that gets underway February 24.
“Cooking and enjoying nutritious food is a gift we should all be able to enjoy every day. When you share part of the process with others, you can have a celebration.”
Community kitchens have been around for many years but continue to be a growing phenomenon across the country. Participants spend a few hours together in a public kitchen, cook up several meals, and divide them amongst themselves to take home. They also enjoy a nutritious meal together.
“Our church kitchen has played a role for generations in feeding our community, often just bringing people together for fun and friendship. It's the perfect place to address all sorts of community needs involving food,” says the Rev. Susan Spicer, St. James Parish priest, adding "Last year St. James started a community garden between the church and the rectory, and ran several gardening workshops. This spring it will also run a series of 'Home-made Baby Food' workshops, and the fourth season of 'What's For Dinner?' a cooking class for youth."
The St. James Community Kitchen, partnering with the Health Unit and Community Care, among others, will run as a pilot project for four alternate Mondays - February 24, March 10 and 24, April 7, starting at 11 a.m. There will be a small fee toward food costs. Pre-registration is mandatory, to accommodate dietary and shopping needs. Call Diane Engelstad at 705-887-7169 for information and registration.
