Kawartha Lakes Mums Do You know a Smoker? It is not too late to S.T.O.P.!
S.T.O.P. short for the free Smoking Treatment for Ontario Patients Program that is coming to Lindsay on February 19, provides smokers with five weeks of free nicotine patches,as well as educational material and other resources to help them quit.
“Becoming tobacco-free can be challenge, and that is where the S.T.O.P. Program can help you achieve the goal of quitting,” says Dearbhla Lynch, a Health Promoter with the HKPR District Health Unit.

The Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit is partnering with the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) to bring the free S.T.O.P. to the City of Kawartha Lakes.
“What’s unique about S.T.O.P. is that nicotine patches are available free-of-charge to participants,” she adds. “Nicotine patches can be costly, but really improve the chances of quitting smoking. For that reason alone, it is worth finding out more about S.T.O.P.”While spaces are still available in the S.T.O.P. Program, time is running out to sign up for the session. Local residents who are interested in attending the S.T.O.P. Program are asked to call the Health Unit at (705) 324-3569. People who call will be asked to complete an initial screening to see if they quality for the program.
