How to Run A Successful Bicycle Rodeo

Kawartha Lakes Kids can sign up for a great budget-friendly cycling program through Boys and Girls Club of Kawartha Lakes that even supplies bicycles to participants, and many local service clubs offer bicycle safety rodeos. If there is not a bicycle safety rodeo in your area, you may want to offer one as well. While I teaching in Scarborough, one of the events we enjoyed most was offering students a bicycle rodeo. This was a real team effort with members of various businesses, and community supports taking part: the health nurse did a segment on bicycle helmets, the police on the rules of the road, an insurance company printed licences and provided a mascot, a bike repair shop inspected the bicycles, and parents manned various stations on the course. Here are a few links to resources that you may find helpful when planning a bicycle rodeo in your neighbourhood. These links will each first show a word from a sponsor.
