Who is Dave Lyons?

TLDSB Consultant Wins 2016 Ophea Award for Outstanding Contribution

TLDSB Healthy Active Living (HAL)
Consultant Dave Lyons has won the 2016 Ophea Award for Outstanding Contribution. This award recognizes individuals for their exemplary contribution to the lives of children and youth in the areas of health and physical education, health and physical activity promotion, advocacy, and community development. Dave has been employed as teacher with TLDSB since 2000 in the elementary panel, and has served as a HAL Consultant since 2013. His work has included supporting the grass roots implementation of Feed All Four within TLDSB, implementing the revised Health and Physical Education Curriculum, and forming many valuable community partnerships through events such as ‘Walk n’ Roll’ to school day, and Bikefest with Canadian Tire Jumpstart.
“I’m really excited and honoured to receive this award,” says Lyons. “What is perhaps most gratifying, is that it recognizes the collective efforts and commitment of the TLDSB community to support and become champions for the physical health and well-being of our students.”
Dave loves being out on the road every day to work with teachers and principals who are so passionate about supporting the well-being of their students. He says its been evident that staff are always looking for ways and information to make a difference in the lives of children and their families.
“I believe we have an significant opportunity to make a difference,” says Lyons. “By providing our students with the skills, confidence, and motivation to be active and to make good choices for their health and well-being, we increase the likelihood that this will become the foundation for a healthy, happy, and fulfilling active life!”
